COMPLETELY NEW PURPOSE:  Once, long ago, it seems, I made a lot of spot commercials for broadcast and cable TV - mostly real estate commercials - and a few personal history video documentaries. Much of that income-producing business has gone by the wayside. And now, speaking of waysides, and with time on my hands, I set about revisiting one of my most favorite places on Earth, and luckily for me, it's just across US Highway 17. It's the Holly Shelter Gamelands, a huge 67,000 acre pocosin refuge that is open for foot traffic all year, and you can drive through during hunting seasons. NC allows hunting in Holly Shelter on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday during the season, and it's a perfectly wonderful place to explore on other days, and more about that later. What at first might look like impenetrable wasteland has become, to me, an incredibly complex system of unique and diverse eco-systems.
